Founded more than 160 years ago in Bahçekapı, Istanbul, Hafız Mustafa 1864 continues to prosper by opening branches and participating in charitable projects. Establishing Hacı Hatice Ongurlar Secondary School in Eskişehir, which has formally opened and welcomed its first group of students, is one of its recent contributions to the community.
The School’s Journey to Completion
Started by Hafız Mustafa in 1864 and finished in November 2023, Hafız Hatice Ongurlar Middle School was built in less than ten months. Several noteworthy individuals attended the ceremony to open the new school to students officially. Avni Ongurlar, the Honorary President of Hafız Mustafa 1864, Gülden Özkasap, Board Vice President Emre Ongurlar, and Board Chairman Eren Ongurlar were among them. At the ceremony were also Odunpazarı District Governor Ömer Ulu, Provincial Director of National Education Sinan Aydın, and Governor Hüseyin Aksoy of Eskişehir.
A Project Rooted in Gratitude
At the ceremony, Honorary President Avni Ongurlar expressed that the project was a debt of gratitude to the city where he was born. He emphasized their belief in the power of education, stating that this school would be a torch illuminating the future. With its 32 classrooms and his late mother’s name, Ongurlar proudly shared that Hacı Hatice Ongurlar Secondary School represented the firm devotion to raising well-educated and well-cultured individuals.
He highlighted the critical role that education plays in the progress of a nation. “Science and technology are developing continuously, and social life is changing swiftly. Consequently, the value of education keeps growing. Education helps people become responsible members of society by encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and respect.” Ongurlar remarked. He addressed the value of lifelong learning and training and reaffirmed their belief in continuing to fund educational initiatives.

Aiming for Broader Impact
During his speech, Ongurlar emphasized their goal of inspiring others in the business community to support education. He mentioned that Hacı Hatice Ongurlar Secondary School carries the vision of a society. According to Ongurlar, the school will serve future leaders, scientists, artists, and entrepreneurs. He further explained that sustainability and environmentally friendly practices were at the very core of the planning phase throughout the development of the school.
The School’s Structure and Facilities
Hafız Hatice Ongurlar Middle School is located on a total area of 8,500 square meters. The main building has four floors and 32 classrooms, with two single-story sections extending from the corners. This layout provides an indoor garden and a dedicated ceremony area. The school has two gyms, one indoors and one outdoors, as well as a conference hall that will be used to host various events.
The innovative architecture of the building reflects a focus on functionality and student well-being. Ongurlar explained that the structure’s design aims to protect students’ attention and privacy by limiting interaction between the school courtyard and the outside world.
A Memorable Opening Ceremony
After the speeches, the opening ceremony included a tour of the school building led by the attending officials. Following the tour, gifts were distributed to the students, along with treats to mark the celebratory occasion.
